THE INDUSTRIAL SOAP CALCULATOR
The Industrial Soap Calculator is designed to help soap manufacturers, formulators and technical professionals evaluate raw materials, formulation quantities and the main results of the soap saponification process.
To use the Industrial Soap Calculator correctly and understand the main parameters used for soap formulation and saponification, follow the instructions below. The calculator allows you to select raw materials, define quantities and calculate the main parameters of an industrial soap formulation.
01 RAW MATERIALS
OILS / FATS Select one or two oils or fats to be used in your soap formulation.
FATTY ACIDS Select one or two fatty acids to be included in your formulation.
CAUSTIC SODA CONCENTRATION (NaOH) Enter the percentage (%) of caustic soda (NaOH) concentration in water that you want to use for the saponification process.
ADDITIONAL WATER (H₂O) This parameter is optional and can be left at 0. Use Additional Water when you want to add extra water (H₂O) to the soap formulation.
02 QUANTITIES
Enter the quantities of the raw materials and process inputs used in your formulation: the quantities entered here are used by the calculator to determine the formulation balance and the resulting soap composition.
03 SAPONIFICATION
In this section, the calculator determines the main values resulting from the soap saponification process.
RECIPE BALANCE
OILS + FATTY ACIDS This value shows the total quantity of oils, fats and fatty acids included in the selected formulation. SOLID LYE NaOH This value shows the quantity of pure caustic soda (NaOH) required for the saponification of the selected formulation. WATER OF SODA SOLUTION This value shows the quantity of water contained in the caustic soda solution, based on the selected NaOH concentration. WATER OF ADDITIONAL WATER This value shows the quantity of additional water entered in the formulation. TOTAL RECIPE This value represents the total weight of the complete recipe, including oils/fats, fatty acids, caustic soda and water.
SOAP BALANCE OF NEAT SOAP
ANHYDROUS SOAP This value shows the quantity of anhydrous soap produced by saponification, excluding water and glycerine. GLYCERINE This value shows the quantity of glycerine generated during the saponification process. The result varies according to the specific oils, fats and fatty acids selected for the formulation. WATER OF SODA SOLUTION This value shows the quantity of water originating from the caustic soda solution. WATER FROM REACTION This value shows the quantity of water generated during the reaction, according to the selected formulation. ADDITIONAL WATER This value shows the quantity of additional water previously entered in the formulation. TOTAL SOAP This value represents the total weight of the neat soap formulation, including anhydrous soap, glycerine and the calculated water components.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
TFM — TOTAL FATTY MATTER (Total Fatty Matter) indicates the percentage of total fatty matter in the soap. MOISTURE This value shows the quantity and percentage of water (H₂O) in the soap. The moisture level increases when additional water is added to the formulation. The calculation is based on the input parameters and selected raw materials. GLYCERINE This value shows the quantity and percentage of glycerine in the final soap formulation.
